This view of the Blore Façade is from a print by George Moore (1835), which is probably based on a drawing by the architect Edward Blore (1787-1879). From left, the façade incorporated the Elementary School, the Boardroom and Clerk’s House, the Tower Entrance, the Harpur Hospital (an orphanage), and the English (or Commercial) School (later Bedford Modern School). In 1974, all the school buildings (together with the Harpur Trust boardroom) behind the façade were demolished, to be replaced by the Harpur Centre, which was opened in 1976.
